The Catawba Partnership for Children Partners to Get Books to Families

The Catawba Partnership for Children and the Catawba Leadership Academy are installing 12 Little Free Libraries to encourage families to grab a free book.

Little Free Libraries, free standing, weather-resistant wooden boxes, house books for families to grab to read to their children. The Libraries in Catawba will also be paired with Dolly Parton Imagination Library promotional materials to provide parents and guardians the opportunity to enroll their child in Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

The Little Free Libraries will be in well-traveled areas of Catawba such as the Hickory Foundation YMCA, grocery stores, parks, and the Corner Table Soup Kitchen. Local artists will design the libraries. The libraries will be cared for by the Leadership Academy until January 2020 when Catawba County Partnership for Children will maintain the Little Free Libraries.

Already, 5,000+ children in Catawba County receive a free, age appropriate book each month through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. The hope is for increased enrollment in Imagination Library and interest in reading through increased access to books due to the visibility of the Little Free Libraries in high trafficked areas.
