Orange County Partnership for Young Children implements Story Exploring with results!

In July of 2017 The Orange County Partnership for Young Children transitioned from implementing Every Child Ready to Read to the project Time to Read which incorporates training child care teachers and staff in Story Exploring

Story Exploring provides strategies that increase children’s reading comprehension and vocabulary by using reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities to increase comprehension, foster problem solving, and nurture a love for books.

Linda Hindman, Associate Director of the Orange County Partnership for Children, remarked “Creating a more intentional and diverse literacy rich environment, building upon teachers’ knowledge of best practices, and incorporating language development and literacy experiences have been the greatest benefits of the program. Lead teachers feel more comfortable in their introduction of a lesson and feel that their delivery of the story through voice and body expressions have captured the attention of the children.”

Over the past two years, three Story Exploring trainings were provided to 25 early child care educators serving over 200 children.

One participant stated, “Since I started connecting the child’s life experiences to each story we read, I am finding myself asking higher level thinking questions”.
