Orange County Partnership Excels at Decreasing Rate of Young Children at an Unhealthy Weight

Thanks to programing implemented by Orange County Partnership for Young Children (OCPYC) rates of young children at an unhealthy weight have dropped.

In 2006, OCPYC initiated the Healthy Kids Campaign to raise funds to address childhood obesity. Since then, OCPYC has invested in several health programs including Preventing Obesity by Design (POD)Healthy Starts for Young Children: Shape NC, Orange County’s Growing up HealthyInitiative, and recently awarded Healthy Starts for Infants and Toddlers: Shape NC funds.

OCPYC’s work with child care centers to improve healthy practices includes technical assistance and ongoing consultation. Multiple evidence-based models including the use of Go NAPSACC and Be Active Kids have been implemented. OCPYC also offers community outreach and consultation on ways to enhance outdoor learning environments. Finally, OCPYC works with the Farm to Early Care and Education Initiative to establish gardens in child care settings, and to promote engaging students in activities in Science, Technology, Reading, Art, Engineering, and Math (STREAM). For more information, please visit OCPYC.
