Melody's Story

Melody Edwards, Loren Brown (Richard's father), and Richard Brown.

“Richard is teaching my assistants and me the value of a quality preschool experience and setting. He came into the early childhood inclusion program with his own language, very little eye contact, no interaction among his peers, had never been in a daycare setting and is autistic. Now, he is able to call my name, shake hands with classmates, smile at others, make eye contact with teachers and friends, and participate in circle time. During circle time, he sings songs with audible and intelligible words, participates in the music and movement activities, and assists with our online daily calendar lesson.

Wow! What a pleasure it is to work in a program that puts a great deal of energy into finding students who are in need of success to make their future brighter!”

—Melody Edwards, Pre-K Teacher, Sandy Grove Elementary, Hoke County Schools
