RALEIGH — For the 12th consecutive year, The North Carolina Partnership for Children, Inc. (NCPC) has received a clean audit from the Office of State Auditor. A report of fiscal year 2013-2014 Smart Start activities disclosed no deficiencies in internal control over financial reporting. NCPC is the organization that oversees the Smart Start network and is audited annually.

“We hold ourselves to high standards of accountability – for both the services the Smart Start network provides to our state’s children and families, and as stewards of public funds,” said Cindy Watkins, President of NCPC. “I am proud of our ability to deliver evidence-based programs that produce positive outcomes, within an effective and efficient system for early childhood services.”

The annual audit examines internal controls over financial reporting and tests compliance with laws, regulations, contracts, and grant agreements. NCPC has had no audit finding for the past 12 years.

NCPC and the 76 Smart Start local partnerships are dedicated to making sure every child starts school with a foundation for success. NCPC works to ensure strong fiscal and programmatic oversight and the local partnerships serve all 100 North Carolina counties and are an engaged and important part of local communities.
